Office Administrative Assistant/Clerk
The first two sessions of the program completed in August 2011. They had an 80% success rate in gaining employment for the recipients who began the program receiving Ontario Works social assistance.
What will be covered?
This training consists of extensive in-class training and an unpaid work placement. Office administrative training will provide skill building in:
- Essential Office Technical Skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet.
- Core Office Tasks including instruction on essential office machines such as printers, photocopiers, fax machines; answering phones; making appointments, etc.
You will also partake in career discovery and develop soft skills to excel in your work environment.
Is this training for me?
Yes, if you:
- enjoy working in an office environment, answering phones and scheduling appointments.
- have basic computer skills and can type up to 25 wpm.
- are organized and able to function well in a fast paced environment.
What will I need?
You must have:
- a minimum of Grade 10 education and
- a clear Police Records Check.

- Training is available for Ontario Works participants and ODSP Spouse and Dependants, OPT 4 Jobs active only.
- If you are in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI), are EI Pending or have received EI, you will need to contact your Ontario Works Case Coordinator to discuss alternative funding options.

The Employment Success Program
This is a program designed to give people employment through job skill development and personal and career growth and planning.
The program takes place over a 9-week period, Monday through Thursday, half-days.
Course participants will:
- receive training in using Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- take part in group workshops and individual exercises to develop confidence, enhanced knowledge of their skills, and communication and personal skills to achieve success in the workplace;
- be placed in continuing jobs with the assistance of the ESP project team.
